Yellow Patches During Dry Weather

This time of year yellow patches are common.  Most often they are usually caused by drought stress.  The lawn will need 45 minutes of watering with a sprinkler every other day to help recover.

If lawns do not start to recover after a few weeks or yellow patches start to spread, it may be caused by chinch bugs.  Chinch bugs are a small bug barely 4 millimetres in length.   They pierce the grass and suck the sap out of the crown and stems.

Chinch bugs thrive in hot, dry conditions, especially slopes and the centre of lawns where there is more sunlight.

The first defense against chinch bugs is regular and frequent watering and fertilization.  Chinch bugs do not like wet conditions and will move to dryer areas.  Fertilizer will help provide the lawn with nutrients strengthening it to sustain chinch bug damage.

Here at The Friendly Green we use Kelp Bio Stimulants to help repair chinch bug damage.  This provides the lawn with nutrients required to help recover from damage caused.  This treatment is also FREE with 5 visit programs.  Give us a call today to add Kelp Bio Stimulants to your program!
